Now I know why we had to take all those profile shots at the last meeting. Entering the blog for the first time was one hell of a shock man. Kudos to whoever set up this blog!
Anyway. Here goes my pre-vietnam reflections.
The last few months have been one heck of a ride. What with the fundraisers and the frequent meetings on top of studying for promos and ccas and stuff. Its mostly been sweet, but of course there have been some iffy spots here and there, but that's okay as long as we make it to vietnam and back in one piece, right? Not to mention how awesome it'll be to make a difference to some people's lives.
One of my worries is the language barrier man. I mean, I've been to vietnam before, and the language is.... kinda hard to pronounce. What if we say something and it comes out sounding offensive? A russel peters moment, but I really dont think it'll be funny. My other worries are kinda standard. What the food will be like, whether the bedsheets will smell funny, that kind of thing. But I suppose it's all okay in the big scheme of things. Got to learn to seperate the genuine problems from the inconveniences.
One thing I've also been thinking about is how lucky we are to be able to go for this trip. Of course, part of the allure is the overseas part of it. But I'm also thinking that the best part is that all us OCIP people have already become a team. Or like Hongyu and the others said. A family. We all started out as strangers, and had our own little cliques here and there, but now everyone's more or less branching out and getting along with everyone else. More or less. But it's what's in between that counts, yes?
I can't wait for thursday. And I can't wait to begin packing.
See you guys on monday!
PS: I'm also looking forward to finally trying out the fried bugs that you find on the roadside street stalls. :D
Cheers, Wenling.
